This free Instagram font generator turns your text into 18 fancy styles that you can copy and paste into a bio, caption, comment or story. It also keeps your line breaks, because Instagram strips blank lines from a bio.

How to use the Instagram font generator
- Type or paste your text into the box at the top. Before you type, the list shows a sample line so you can see each style.
- Watch the two counters under the box. Caption counts up to 2,200 characters and Bio counts up to 150. The bars turn warning colours as you get close to the limit.
- Scroll through the list of styles. Every row shows your text in that style.
- Press Copy next to the style you like, then paste it into Instagram.
- To keep spacing, use the line break helper further down the page, then press Copy spaced text.
Everything happens in your browser. Your text is not sent anywhere and you do not need an account. The counters count characters the way Instagram does, so a bold letter counts as one character.
The 18 styles in the list
The styles fall into a few groups. Most of them are sets of letters from the Unicode standard, which is why they can be pasted almost anywhere.
| Group | Styles | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Bold and italic | Bold, Italic, Bold italic | Clean and easy to read; good for a name or a heading |
| Script and old style | Script, Bold script, Fraktur, Bold fraktur | Decorative; harder to read in long text |
| Double struck and mono | Double struck, Monospace | Technical or typewriter look |
| Sans serif | Sans serif, Sans bold, Sans italic | Simple styles that stay readable |
| Small and shaped | Small caps, Circled, Wide | Use for short labels only |
| Effects | Upside down, Strikethrough, Underline | Use sparingly; upside down reverses the text |
Not every style changes every character. Letters are converted, and some styles also convert numbers. Punctuation, emoji and any letters a style has no version of stay as you typed them. Strikethrough and underline add a line to each character instead of changing the letter.
Instagram line break and bio spacing
If you have ever typed a tidy bio in the Instagram app and found that the blank lines disappeared, you have met the line break problem. Instagram removes empty lines and leading spaces from a bio. The line break helper gets around it by putting an invisible character on each blank line, so Instagram sees a line with content and keeps it.
- Type your bio with a blank line between each paragraph.
- Under Blank lines between paragraphs, choose Keep as typed, or set 1, 2 or 3 blank lines.
- Tick Indent each line if you want every line pushed in slightly.
- Check the Spaced text box. It is read only, so it shows exactly what will be copied.
- Press Copy spaced text and paste it into your bio.
You can use the same helper for captions. Short paragraphs with one blank line between them are easier to read on a phone than a single block of text. Paste the helper result into the caption box and check the preview in the app before you post.
Where fancy text works and where it does not
Because the letters are plain Unicode characters, they paste into most places that accept text: Instagram bios, captions, comments and stories, and also messages, social profiles and documents. The exact look depends on the device. Most phones and computers draw them, but an older device or app may show an empty box for a character it does not know.
Fancy text is not a new font in the usual sense. It is a different set of characters. That has three side effects you should know about. Screen readers may read the letters out badly or one by one. Search treats a fancy letter as a different character from a plain one, so a bold keyword is not matched with the plain version. And copy and paste from a document can break the style if the receiving app strips unusual characters.
Best practice for Instagram bios and captions
Instagram fonts work best as emphasis, not for whole paragraphs. A bold name or one short line is clear and draws the eye. A full bio in Fraktur is hard to read. Aim for two styles at most.
Keep key details in plain text. Put your main keyword, location and contact details in normal letters so people and search can read them. If you run a business account, write the part that explains what you do in plain text first, then use a style on the call to action.
Write for the 150 character bio limit and the first lines of a caption, which are what people see before pressing more. Put the important point first. Our social media marketing team plans bios, captions and content calendars for brands, and the same rules apply there: clear first, decorated second.

A simple layout for a bio
A short bio works best when each line has one job. Here is a pattern you can follow. Line one says who you are or what you do. Line two names the main thing you offer or the audience you serve. Line three gives a reason to trust you, such as a place, a result you can prove or how long you have been working. Line four is the call to action, such as Book a call or Shop below.
Put a single line break between each part, using the helper, so the bio reads as four clear lines. Then decide where a style adds something. A bold or small caps line for your name or category can help it stand out. Leave the rest in plain text. Re-read it on your phone, since that is where most people will see it.
Common mistakes
The first is using fancy text for your username. Instagram usernames allow only letters, numbers, periods and underscores, so fancy characters cannot go there. They can go in your name field and bio.
The second is using upside down or Fraktur text for something important, such as a phone number or an offer date. People will skip it or misread it. The third is skipping the check in the app. Paste, then look at the profile on your own phone before you leave it. The fourth is going over the limit. The counter will show you if the bio is above 150 characters. The counter counts the text you type, not the invisible spacing characters the helper adds, so leave a little room under 150.
Frequently asked questions
How do I get fancy fonts on Instagram?
Type your text into the generator, find the style you like in the list and press Copy. Then paste it into your Instagram bio, caption or comment. You do not need to install anything, because the styles are made from special characters, not an app.
Why do the fonts work when I paste them?
Each style is a set of Unicode characters, such as mathematical bold letters. Instagram and most other apps can draw them like normal text. Because they are separate characters, they are not a font setting, so they stay when you paste.
How do I add line breaks in my Instagram bio?
Use the line break helper on this page. Type your bio with blank lines, choose how many blank lines you want, then copy the spaced text. The helper puts an invisible character on each blank line so Instagram keeps your spacing.
What are the Instagram character limits?
The tool tracks 2,200 characters for a caption and 150 for a bio. The count shows live as you type. Fancy letters count as one character each, so a bold word is the same length as the plain word.
Is fancy text bad for accessibility?
It can be. Screen readers often read these characters as names such as mathematical bold small a, or skip them. Keep key information in plain text, and use fancy styles only for short decoration.
Will fancy text affect search on Instagram?
Search compares characters, and a fancy letter is a different character from a plain one. So your main keyword is better in plain text. Use styles on extra words or a call to action, not on the words you want to be found for.
Is my text saved or sent anywhere?
No. The styles are made in your browser and nothing is uploaded or stored. There is no sign-up. When you close the page the text is gone, so copy anything you want to keep.
